I’m a Horticulturist and Landscape Designer with a long history in Permaculture and Regenerative Agriculture. These days much of my work is centred around education; teaching people how to develop productive gardens and the ease of growing and preserving their own food. I also make and sell Insect Hotels for schools and public spaces.
My career started about 20 years ago when my Uncle gave me a copy of "Introduction To Permaculture". I wasn’t really sure at the time why he thought that was an appropriate gift for a seventeen-year-old girl but, as I have since found out, it couldn’t have been more appropriate. In fact, it changed my life. Since then, pretty much wherever I have gone in the world I have had my hands in the soil.
I am the founder of The Lemon Tree Project (#TLTP), which kicked off in June 2012. TLTP was a community lead initiative that empowered neighbours to come together & create a communal space in their street (or neighbourhood) where they could congregate and share. The basic framework of these communal sites was centred around a communal:
- lemon tree
- herb garden
- park bench
It often turned out a lot more than that :)
It was designed to get people out of their homes & give them a place where they might bump into neighbours, open up a dialogue with people they'd never met before and perhaps share food & the joy of gardening.
TLTP was established for anyone in the world who may wish to make a positive change in their community. It may be a small gesture but can be really powerful.
The project ran for 8 years and has now come to an end. In that time over 1000 sites around Australia & NZ were developed.
Sadly Craig Mackintosh(PRI) deleted my project from here because he didn't see it's relevance to Permaculture! Go Figure!
I'm also a foundation member of the Environmental Champions. We are a collaborative group helping like-minded individuals kick-start awesome environmental projects that can change their communities for the better.
I have spent 3 years as the "Resident Gardening Expert" on Environmentality 98.9FM on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. The show streams live every Wednesday from 12pm-1pm.
