Background:
- My interest in landscape and culture comes from growing up on a farm where values about land were based in the values of my Swedish grandparents who approached love of land in a particularly sensitive and creative way.
- My father practiced according to Schumacher's principles of "small is beautiful" without initiatially knowing about Schumacher. He did, however, understand and practiced the principles of permaculture.

History of interest:
- My husband and I have worked intimately with permaculture projects in Sierra Leone, West Africa, including the co-founding of a secondary school based on permaculture principles. Things went very well there until the destabilization of the 80s began, followed by the devastation of war in the 90s. Many of the land-based projects that had taken root were destroyed and are slowly beginning again.
At times we have been actively engaged in small but significant Sub-Saharan reforestion projects through the planting of rapidly growing plants and ground cover such as yemeni trees.
- During my doctoral studies in anthropology at the University of Cambridge, I concentrated on documenting traditional plants used in the prevention of disease, promotion and maintenance of health. During that period I was inspired by many wonderful landscape/culture projects and by wonderful people such as Sir David Attenborough.
- Periods of time in other parts of the world (South Korea, Thailand, Oman and Sharjah-Dubai) continued to inform my interests in permaculture. I could say a great deal about these experiences and observations!

Current projects:
My husband and I have a farm where we have left native pastures to thrive on their own assisted by managed lifestock and a planned system of water reservoirs to counteract drought.

We are deeply involved in an organization whose mission is "Inspiring creativity for health through our landscape, our communities and the arts". A growing network of individuals continues to learn very actively about land/water protection and reclamation.
