I'm a native of South Florida and spent many summers in Sullivan County, NY on a defunct hotel property (which was originally built in the 1890s where at some point, a young Danny Kaye was allegedly the night club emcee and Joe Louis practiced boxing on the lawn). By the time I got there, it had been pretty much abandoned and had wild berries growing in abundance. The plan to re-develop the property in the early 1980s never went thru and I had the dream to someday help turn it into an ecovillage/retreat center (before I even had the language to call it that). The land has since been sold, but the dream of my childhood remains. אם תרצו, i.e. if you can dream it, then it can be real (or something like that).
I've been a commercial litigation attorney for several years now and had a persistent interest in climate change since the 1990s. In 2008, I went back to school to get an LL.M. focused on law related to climate change, but when the national legislation I'd hoped would stimulate resilience building projects got stalled due to the economic crash... Well, I guess I'll just have to figure out a way to be the change I want to see. And since I can't do it alone, I'm hoping to find some other like-minded folks interested in developing an eco-arts village within 90 miles of the city, where we can contribute to building climate resilience for the region via a community that implements permaculture, 21st century thinking in terms of waste to energy systems, solar and other renewable/sustainable energy sources, etc.
I currently reside in NYC and am still practicing law, while working on a plan for the the dream community (a cross between and ecovillage/summer camp/kundalini yoga retreat center).
