Hello everyone. My name is Nathan. 30ish from Cincinati Ohio my hobbies are creative writing and event planning. In my early years i was a boyscout in the area where i was really introduced to the out doors and the cycle of all living things.
Recently i have become a lot more interested in gardening and permaculture as i have been exploring my role in the world and just how much the current system disconnects us from our food source. One of the most prominent examples i can think of is finding some whild green onions growing in my yard and being all excited about making some spagehtti suace with them. However after it was made i had such a hard time bringing myself to eat it.. why? i thought what is the disconnect...i eat the stuff from a jar all the time. " well yes but this came from.. the dirt" is the thought that crossed my mind next. "Why should that matter?" i asked myself and it was then that i saw how disconnected we are a a society from our food..we have such abundant supplies of prepackaged pre cooked " insta " this and microwave that... food has become less than a 2nd concern to us, and i found that wrong...very wrong.
That is what brings me to my current inspirations I am attempting to undergo the settlers challenge for the winter of 2014 from first frost to last frost .. sustaining myself on only things i myself have grown and prepared for ahead of time. I am working out the details to make it more feasible and accessible for more people but i suspect there will be a lot of canning involved regardless. CAN we do it?
