I'm heading into a permaculture career late in life, though I have been practicing many of the principles and ethics unknowingly for as I can remember.
I was introduced to permaculture through Jack Spirko at TheSurvivalPodcast.com. I have always had an interest in growing and raising my own food, and am now raising chickens, mostly for eggs but an occasional meat bird, rabbits for meat and am beginning a line of pigs which will be 1/2 American Guinea hog, 1/4 red wattled and 1/4 duroc. I am hoping to bring the size down to something manageable while still retaining the great taste of the red wattled/duroc cross.
Right now I'm researching ways for the horse community here to incorporate permaculture into their 1/2 to 1 acre properties to decrease or eliminate the large amount of bare soil everyone seem to have and find forage plants appropriate for horses to reduce feed costs and decrease the huge amounts of alfalfa that needs to transported for feed.
