My name is Zeb and permaculture has radically changed the way I view and interact with the world. I was born in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana; an area not well known for agriculture or sustainability, though I was fortunate to be raised in a family that gardened on a small scale. At age 5 we moved to a small town on the Kentucky/Tennessee border where I was completely surrounded by forest and livestock as far as the eye could see.
But I was a typical American at heart, I hated eating fruits and vegetables and I refused to drink anything other than mountain dew. At age 18 I weighed 250 lbs (I'm only 5' 7) and rarely ventured outdoors because I hated the heat and mosquitoes. I was on a truly destructive path, dabbling in drugs and an increasingly unhealthy lifestyle and outlook.
Thankfully all that changed though, one day I happened to find a video featuring Bill Mollison (In grave danger of falling fruit) and instantly my whole life changed. I knew, at that moment, that this was my calling, that permaculture would be the focus of my life's journey.
At age 20 the concept for "Wild Wood Farm" was born; I moved to a cabin in the woods that my dad and grandpa built, and slowly started applying permaculture techniques to the place. 4 years later the landscape has been transformed, but there is still much work to be done.
Now that I've gotten the basics figured out, i've been working with friends and family to institute permaculture techniques on their properties and hopefully we will be starting a community garden within the year to help bring permaculture concepts to our community.
