Aside from spending several years as a student at Concordia University, Kate has been working in the field of Eco-Building for nearly ten years. In 2009, she took a five-month intensive course in Sustainable Building Construction and Design, after which she started a green renovations business in Montreal and also undertook the construction of her passive solar straw bale home, along with her partner.
Two years into the build, Kate discovered and grew passionate about Permaculture after watching an introductory one-hour video about it. Over that winter, she sought out and watched as many videos and free courses online as she could find, including Jack Spirko's short intro to permaculture videos. Last summer, she took her first PDC online with Geoff Lawton.
She has since started Permaculture Portneuf in her area and is currently planning several workshops which she and Bernat plan to give this summer at their home. Kate also runs a business selling prefabricated straw bale walls, which she hopes will help make eco-building accessible to those who are unable to build their own houses.
