Using the old technique and manual tools

Friends and family got together to get manure in the soil using manual light tools and prepare it for the maize, potato and vegetable crops.

The terraces on this steep slope land makes it possible to grow organically rich soil as every spring loads of matured manure of goats and sheeps are added to the soil in the small scale intensive cultivation process. Plus, all organic matter from the last year crops are added to the manure

Starting with warmer and driers days in May or early June, crops will be flood irrigated using water coming from centuries old tiny water dams, and channels with a very small gradient coming from the nearest creek.

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
