During our annual Strata meeting, one owner complained that the lawns had too many weeds in it. The management agent pointed out that Whislter does not allow herbicides so they do the best they can without the use of chemicals. I took that opportunity and offered an alternative - relandscaping the area using permaculture principles.
I am drawing up a proposal for the Strata Council to consider in November with the following purpose:
To design and implement landscaping at a condo complex in Whistler BC to minimise maintenance, maximise visual appeal, work with the natural surroundings and use of space.
If the council accepts this proposal, the benefits would include:
- designs and layout can encourage positive behaviour by creating spaces that encourage desired behaviour
- designed with nature and people in mind thereby creating attractive area which is easy to live in
- plants chosen can deter mosquitoes and other harmful insects
- minimum maintenance
- long term lower costs
- enriches soil
- contributes to the ecosystem for environmental health
Anyone interested in participating with this project/proposal is welcome to contact me.
