VOLUNTEERS INVITED:
What is needed, and who can help?
1. Digging 1 1/2 miles of swales:
Anyone who can wield a shovel is welcome! The use of dirt moving equipment (excavator, back hoe) would obviously greatly speed up this initial phase, but that costs money.
2. Sheet mulching.
Anyone who can provide or transport manure, straw, leaves, compost, tree branches, etc. We'll need huge quantities.
3. planting:
We will need cuttings, rooted plants, cover crop and flower seeds. Lots of them!
And people to help plant them as well.
a. Desert pioneer trees and bushes:
desert willow, Mexican Elderberry, desert sumac, skunkbush sumac, buffaloberry, black locust, chokecherry, hackberry, lilac, Nanking cherry, NM forestiera, serviceberry, Woods' rose, burr oak, gambell oak, pinon, juniper, cypress, pine, redcedar, maple, fir, ...
b. Fruiting and flowering trees:
nuts, apples, pears, peaches, apricots, cherries, prunes, berries, ...
c. Cover crops: red clover, barley, oats, annual grasses, ...
Flowering plants, both annuals and perennials, or seeds...
4. Animals:
Anyone who can provide a few birds (chickens, ducks, geese, pigeons, guinea fowl, ...), goats, pigs or can contribute electrified fences and building materials fto build animal shelters.
5. an attorney:
to set up a not-for-profit legal framework for the project.
6. a veterinarian to check on the animals once in a while.
7. an accountant / bookkeeper to assist with budgeting and bookkeeping
8. local organizations and businesses can help sponsor this project.
Any financial, material of volunteer assistance would be greatly appreciated.
9. students or professionals interested in permaculture, gardening, reforestation, conservation and restoration, ...
10. passersby, visitors, friends, locals, countrymen, foreigners, city people, farmers, ...
Of course, comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
