2011 PDC Organizing Internship
Interested in teaching permaculture? Do you want to learn what is involved with organizing a permaculture design certification course? The Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute would like to invite our alumni and other equally qualified individuals to apply for our 2011 PDC Organizing Internship.
This is a full-time, volunteer position from July 19th until August 10th. We also request that the intern be available for evening Skype conference calls with the teaching team in the weeks leading up to the PDC. This will be as intense and rewarding as your PDC!
Working closely with Michael Burns, Steve Gabriel, Karry Olson Ramanujan and Rafter Sass, you will assist the with the PDC administration and logistics, especially at the class site.
You will be expected to learn and manage the big picture of running and managing a PDC including meeting the camping, food, water, waste, and classroom needs of the teachers and students. Organizing this learning community will give you a chance to learn how we build and deliver our curriculum, evaluate our work, and assess the learning outcomes of our students.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to teach a permaculture-related topic that youre passionate about as part of our evening offerings.
Please visit http://FingerLakesPermaculture.org for information about applying by the May 31, 2011 deadline. Phone interviews will be conducted the following week. Applicants will be notified by June 15th.

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI TeacherWith the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable. PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows. |
