Before founding the Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute (FLPCI) with Steve Gabriel and Karryn Olson Ramanujan in 2005, Michael Burns spent years working in publishing (including the Guardian Newsweekly, Tenant/Inquilino, & Tikkun magazine) and within the peace and justice movement. He learned permaculture design in Guatemala, while working with Ronaldo Lec Ajcot of the Mesoamerican Permaculture Institute. Now he and Kelly Dietz are building a farmstead based on permaculture principles when he is not devoting his energy to teaching U.S. History, encouraging the networks of permaculture practioners in the Finger Lakes region through FLXpermaculture.Net and around upstate New York State through UpstateNYpermaculture.Net, volunteering for his town planning commision, or fretting over his small flock of mongrel chickens. Michael is the Education Director for FLPCI.
