Al Numeira Environmental Association

Project Type

Rural, Community, Demonstration

Project Summary

The Center aims at promoting sustainable living in the Dead Sea region (and beyond). We have created a small permaculture garden using a graywater system and are currently looking at new projects within the local community. We welcome volunteers from all over the world!

Project Description

What is the Dead Sea Harmony Centre?

The mission of the Dead Sea Harmony Centre is to promote a sustainable environment and economy in the Jordan valley in which both humans and the natural environment flourish. The Dead Sea Harmony Centre strives to accomplish this mission through the methods of Eco-Tourism by establishing an Eco-Camp for visitors to the area and Ghour al-Mazraa as an Eco-Village for the local residents.

Main objectives:
1. Nature conservation
2. Environmental education
3. Intercultural exchange & cross-border meetings
4. Sustainable tourism

Objective 1: Nature conservation
The primary objective of the Centre is the conservation of natural resources, specifically water.

Objective 2: Environmental education
Our aim is to educate locals and international visitors about the environment and sustainable living, as well as to raise awareness about the water situation in the region.

Objective 3: Intercultural exchange
We intend to make the Centre a multicultural meeting point. International volunteers will experience the local culture while at the same time bringing their own culture to the locals.

Objective 4: Sustainable tourism
We aim to provide an environmentally friendly alternative to the existing tourist locations in the Dead Sea region.

Please email us if you are interested, with some details about you and how long you might wish to stay.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
