Jiwa Damai Permaculture Center Bali

Project Type

Rural, Community, School Projects, Educational

Project Summary

Jiwa Damai is a socially responsible, hands-on permaculture farm and retreat center on Bali, Indonesia. We practice sustainable biological gardening, grow organic fruits and vegetables, water preservation and recycling.

Project Description

On our extensive permaculture farm we practice biological gardening with effective microorganisms. In our Mandala Garden we grow organic vegetables and fruit, medicinal herbs as well as plants for Balinese ceremonies.
We are dedicated to a sustainable way of living and take great care of our natural environment.

Water preservation, biological waste recycling and composting are integral parts of our philosophy.
Recently we installed some bio tanks for the recycling of the waste waters. The implementation of solar energy is planned.

We want to provide a meeting place for individuals from all over the world to learn about tropical fauna and flora and to foster know- how exchange in the field of agro-permaculture.

Jiwa Damai is a social responsible business. All profits are donated to the local Lagu Damai foundation to support community projects and finance school and university education for local Balinese youths.

Guests are welcome to stay in our Retreat Center and have the possibility to contribute to our projects in the organic garden.

For accommodation we offer six beautifully decorated guests rooms and three Balinese Lumbungs in the garden. A huge pool filled with natural spring water, a spacious lounge and dining area surrounded by water lily ponds as well as a health room and two unique yoga& meditation areas are awaiting our guests.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
