After leaving school in 1973, I worked in the communications electronics industry in the media and with the military. A shift in my career took me to teaching adults and children in the military, TAFE, University, as well as primary and high schools.
I've been a conservationist and bushwalker for the last 40 years, but not much good in the garden. In June 2013 I undertook a Permaculture Design Certificate Course with Tom Kendall on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. Even for the skeptics in the Course it was a life changing experience with a new way to look at the world. After completing the PDC I quickly realised that I needed some knowledge, skills and experience in horticulture. I rocked up to one of our major nurseries and said that I'd like some work experience and that I'd work 2 days a week for plants if they took me on. They did and I learned how to garden (with chemicals)--all of a sudden I can grow and propagate plants (without chemicals).
After my PDC in June 2013 I've been working solidly at converting our 2.5 acre property into a Permaculture farmlet. I currently work with community members to help them with their gardens. Next year (2015) I'll be running some amazing online and on-farm Permaculture courses. I hope to meet some of you through this avenue or others.
