Antonio Carrillo is one of the few Mexicans with solid credentials in Permaculture and Regenerative Agriculture. He has led +20 different courses and workshops in subjects such as: introduction to permaculture, food forests, biointensive gardening, sustainable forestry, yoga, permaculture design and design thinking. With a major in Arts and Literature, he has broadened his education since college in order to provide his personal interest in developing a mindful approach to regerenative practices. He was involved in the development of Rancho Los Amigos as a ecotourism enterprise since its early beginnings, consolidating the enterprise to its present form. In order to go beyond ecotourism and other practices he considers that are just "green marketing", he created an NGO named Estampa Verde, which is involved in developing environmental education strategies which include Permaculture Design, Holistic Management, Regenerative Agriculture, Yoga and other creative and healing arts.
Living in different cities in center and west Mexico, he discovered on an early age and by his own observation that the urban sprawl was a great threat for natural ecosystems. He decided to reconnect with nature when he entered college, traveling wide around the country, visiting as many natural locations as possible. After wandering through three different careers, he finally decided to study Art and Literature in order to provide his own ecological argumentation a solid basis. During his travels he found Rancho Los Amigos in 2002, which provided him his first experimental platform to test on site the redesign of a deteriorated grassland. Without previous knowledge of permaculture or agroecology, his approach was merely romantic and based on the knowledge he could learn from the local people. It was until 2005 when he took several courses on agroecology in Las Cañadas Co-op (located in one of the last remains of fog forest in Mexico) and made a lifelong relationship with the people that live and work there. Since then, he has been taking several courses, diplomas, and workshops in the subject, looking for ways to improve his professional practice.
