Born and raised in suburban Southern California, Haley wasn't educated on anything having to do with growing food. While attending college in Long Island, New York, she began learning about environmental issues, which eventually lead to her dropping out of college wanting to contribute to the planet by learning how to be an organic farmer. After dropping out of college in January 2013, she sought local volunteer opportunities through WWOOF, and actually got a job on a farm part time.
In June 2013 she moved to Belize, Central America. There, by luck, she stumbled on a volunteer opportunity with a permaculture farm in Valley of Peace, Belize. Just outside of Belmopan. There she learned under a permaculturist from Germany, a many named Toby Sengfelder. Wanting to travel further, she left Belize, to travel to Guatemala and Nicaragua. Eventually finding a home in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. In November 2014, exhausted of travel, and working in hostels, she decided to take a PDC.
Currently she is working with Shad Qudsi at Atitlan Organics in Tzununa, Lake Atitlan as the volunteer manager. Coordinating volunteers, facilitating activities in workshops, and taking farm produce to markets. She seeks to further enrich her education in permaculture by gaining experience with plants and animals. She accepts that there is a lifetime of experiences from the land to learn from, and looks forward to it. She is passionate in what she does, in understanding how to communicate with nature, and going back to roots as an ingenious person once again.
