My academic background is in Nutrition and Medical Illustration and I have always been fascinated by the interconnectedness of biological systems. I have nearly always been gardening and composting in some form or another with my mother, on apartment balconies, or in community gardens. I have done my Master Gardener, Landscape Design and Dynascapes with the Calgary Zoo.
I had first heard about Permaculture while volunteering with Community Gardening at the University of Toronto but I didn't learn more about it until Rob Avis brought the concept to Calgary. The first thing I did was to attend an Alberta-wide Permaculture Convergence and from then on I was hooked. Since, I have taken Intro to Permaculture, and PDC with Rob Avis, attended many community events/workshops and read many books on the subject.
I'm planning on continuing with the Permaculture project I started a couple summers ago in my back and front yard. I am really interested in seed saving and plant breeding and I'm going to try to save more varieties this year. I am helping initiate a Community Garden in my neighbourhood with a big focus on Permaculture principles. I'd also like to work on visualizing Permaculture designs and volunteer with the Calgary Permaculture Guild.
