I founded Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA) in 1990. In 1991 I brought Bill Mollison to South Africa and sent him on a road trip around the country to meet with academics, lodge owners, entrepreneurs, development bankers, spiritual organisations, greenies and others to introduce permaculture to South Africa.
Since then I have organised many PDCs that have trained hundreds of disadvantaged and other community members. FTFA has been running the EduPlant programme for 18 years now, the national permaculture school education and competition programme and annually raises funds to support many school and community permaculture projects. A Permaculture Starter Pack has been introduced since we receive many more applications for help than we can deal with and this helps to "weed out" those that may not be viable so that we can develop sustainable food gardening projects, see www.trees.co.za
