(projects i'm involved in)
I'm a writer and editor and I've been heavily involved in human rights for over 10 years. I wrote a book on the topic, plus many articles for newspapers and magazines. I worked as a volunteer with ChilOut (Children Out of Immigration Detention). When the children were freed in 2005 I was exhausted. I felt it was time for a change of pace and a new positive focus. Deeply passionate about the environment I wrote a book on it and joined a community garden in Randwick where I was introduced to permaculture. I haven't looked back since. I am still with Randwick 6 years later but have become involved in the development of the Asylum Seekers Centre Permaculture Garden since its inception in 2008. We're currently moving into a new phase of development. Permaculture for the People is growing out of my twin loves of human rights and permaculture. Our first asylum seekers attended a Holistic Management course with Milkwood at the end of 2011. The broader plan is to create beautiful places in Sydney public housing, training up people who may otherwise not have that opportunity.
