About two years after completing my PDC we sold our old property and bought a new 112ha farm about two years ago. We find ourselves in an environment where everything is new: we changed from summer rainfall to winter. From loam soil to sand. Even the indigenous plants, which are mainly Fynbos and invasive Acacia Saligna and Acacia Cyclops are new to us. After almost two years of observing and experimenting, we have just begun building our new poured earth home and we are establishing a new kitchen garden. We are using Kolbroek pigs in a mob grazing fashion to help clear the invasives and to add much needed nutrients to the sandy soil. We also have chicken and rabbit tractors doing their part. We are also establishing a 1 ha food forest.
