I grew up on the prairie. Winters in the city. Summers on my grandparent's farm. I always loved nature, being outside, cross country skiing, hiking, canoeing, gardening, frolicking along river banks and in forests. I went to school and got a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Manitoba and have been focusing on environmental education ever since.
In 1998, my parents bought the family farm, and it's since become a meeting place for family and friends - a summer cabin and seasonal garden, left dormant over the winter. Yet, questions have arisen about what will happen to this land. Who will take it over? Will it be settled again? By whom? In what way? That is what I am here to figure out.
I first heard about permaculture in school, but didn't really know that much about it before reading Gaia's Garden and then seeking out websites and books that referenced it. Then I took Jessie Lemieux's PDC in the summer of 2011 and it has filled my dreams ever since. I am looking at doing some design consultancy for friends and people in the Winnipeg community, but also trying to figure out how to apply Permaculture Design principals to 80 acres of previously conventionally farmed land. It's an exciting place to be.
