I grew up in this region and was very soon involved in nature conservation activities; putting up tree plant campaigns,... As a primary school teacher I started up school gardens until I took of for a travelling year towards Australia. There I WWOOF-ed my way around from the Northwest to Tasmania. And from there up to the Cairns region. I discovered permaculture in Australia as a vibrant movement and followed some courses and a PDC course with Rene and Lorraine Van Raders in 2000.
Back home I started with a foodforest on my parent's block. Permaculture wasn't well known at all these days so I started to go out teaching about it in every corner of our little country.
We formed a group and went visiting inspiring places, bought and shared inspiring books and all this led to the organisation of a PDC course in 2006.
I worked in the garden of a Camphill community up till 2011. We've started up our own project "Het Voedselbos" (means foodforest). From 2009 on I did some teaching for the upcoming Transition Town-movement in Belgium and started a year-round education program together wit vzw You.
In 2010 most work went out to the building of our roundhouse as a course venue. The EUPC 10 took place in Belgium and I was honoured with their numerous visit. In september I've started a permaculture yeartraining in Orval together with the Oost-westcentrum.
And what are the plans ?
In April 2012 we're proudly presenting a PDC course in het Voedselbos. I plan on going to the EUPC in Kassel and start a new Course in september. I'm asked to do some designs for school grounds and a few urban permaculture projects. There's also a network growing between teacher in Flanders at the moment. Permaculture found it's way to Belgium and I love to take part in this positive movement.
