About Kyle Holzhueter

Kyle works as a plasterer, researcher and educator in Japan specializing in Permaculture systems and natural building materials such as straw bale and natural plasters.

Kyle has studied natural farming in Japan, permaculture in Australia, and organic and biodynamic farming in the US.

In 2004, Kyle completed a Permaculture Teachers' Training at Crystal Waters Ecovillage, Australia, and has taught Permaculture Design Courses at Daruma EcoFarm, Thailand and Permaculture AWA, Japan.

In 2011 Kyle completed a PhD in bioresource sciences at Nihon University researching the hygrothermal environment of straw bale walls and building practices to prevent moisture damage. He has led the construction of over 10 straw bale buildings in Japan and was also instrumental in building the first light straw clay (2013) and light rice husk clay (2016) buildings in Japan.

Kyle is a graduate of the Kyoto Plastering Institute and in 2016 became the first westerner in Japan to achieve the rank of first degree plasterer (highest nationally recognized).

In 2017, Kyle founded Permaculture Center Kamimomi in Okayama, Japan. Permaculture Center Kamimomi hosts regular workshops in natural building, no-till organic rice farming and Permaculture systems. https://www.facebook.com/PermacultureKamimomi
