(projects i'm involved in)
Hello my name is Joao Kyle Loch. I am a college student / manager of holistic farm in Virginia's Peidmont region. Our farm is in Fauquier County, part of the Old Dominion's beautiful "hunt country". The farm is located less than an hour from Washington DC in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We began implementing sustainable farming practices about 5 years ago and have steadily been increasing our output every year. Currently there are about 2 acres of fruits/veges, 60 chickens, and 6 cows. We are in the midst of creating a permaculture oasis out of the orchard/vege garden area. Another project is resale of produce through jarred preserves, nut butters, herb mixtures, chutneys, etc. Upon certification, we will be the only organic fruit producer in our region. Any and every perennial fruit/vege/herb that can be grown in our region will eventually be cultivated on our farm via the Permacultural Method.
I am taking a course at George Mason University in Permaculture Design after which I will be officially certified and ready to offer consultation, design, and installation services. My studies on horticulture, biodynamics, permaculture, and general earth science are a never ending pursuit. I've worked at a large retail nursery for 5 years as well as performing landscaping, horticultural work for even longer.
Next year we are interested in having interns periodically from March-September. Lodging and a small stipend would be included as well as a plethora of knowledge and hands on experience in all facets of a self-sufficient farm. While all candidates will be considered, only the best will be accepted. Please email me your basic information, experience, expectations, and availability and I will get back to you as soon as I am able. Thanks!
