(projects i'm involved in)
I grew up in rural Hawaii where I was exposed to many examples of alternative living/lifestyles. This led me to pursue study in sustainable living at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa. I took courses in soil microbiology, organic agriculture and natural building and received my PDC in 2011, taught by Doug Crouch of TreeYo Permaculture.
In 2012 I cofounded a permaculture project in Dominica, West Indies. We started by planting a vetiver grass nursery. In 2015 we built a 20' diameter earthbag roundhouse. This is the first structure on the property and will serve as our home as well as infrastructure for our ecotourism programs.
We plan to create a diverse and resilient permaculture site that can serve as a model for agriculture and sustainability in the tropics. We will focus heavily on agroforestry as well as promoting and demonstrating the use of vetiver in tropical growing systems. Our next step (in addition to finishing the roundhouse) is to establish nitrogen fixing species throughout the property in preparation for further tree planting.
