I grew up moving around America, and have settled now on an organic farm in Florida with my young family. When I was a kid my dad always planted fruit trees and a garden, one beneath the other, everywhere we lived, though we often moved before those trees bore us fruit.
Permaculture makes sense to me as a design principle because it mimics the natural world, which runs on an economy of abundance rather than scarcity. I like that. I first learned about Permaculture because of the work of another member on this network.
With some friends of mine I've started a permaculture organization in Jacksonville called Our Fertile Earth Inc. We are planting food forests in empty lots around town, which we secure with a stewardship agreement with the owner, and using those gardens to provide local employment and educational opportunities.
