From my earliest memories, living across the road from my grandparents' dairy farm, I've been interested in farming and natural environments. I've said that I always feel best "where nature obtains."
Last year, my husband bought me Fukuoka's Sowing Seeds in the Desert book, and I've been learning about permaculture ever since. I am especially attracted to deep observations of nature. I have been inventorying weeds on my property, and learning what they tell me about soil conditions and niches.
This year (2013) I took my PDC course. I was especially interested in understanding Earthworks: I didn't' understand why permaculturists would move earth and change hydrology. Now I do! I also took a hands-on hugelkultur workshop with Glenn Gall and Mari Keating in the Cleveland area this Spring.
Now I am working to implement the design I made for our property (suburban). I am also meeting others in the greater Cleveland area who are working on permaculture projects. I am an active participant on permies.com.
