Tick controll, baby chicks and clearing!

Posted by Carl Ragsdale over 8 years ago

Some much needed yard clearing has been done over the last 3 weeks. Yesterday I got one acess road cleared out from many years of over growth. Still treating the yard and outer areas with Diatomaceous Earth. Has helped alot. back in April just a quick stroll around the house in zone 1 you would have at least 10 ticks crawling up you leg. I've treated it 3 times and now not one tick will be on you. DE works!

We got some baby chicks last week bought 32 and all but 15 died, I think some of them were too young and with the extream heat we were having added to the factor. I was always told if the deal is too good to be true it usualy is. This is the case here. Bought them from a friends friend and got the chick at a very good price ( 1 dollar each)  Still am not sure how many are hen's, hoping I'm not holding a bunch of roosters.

The house is comming along. Tight money has made the Kitchen building a pain but the wife is happy with the farmhouse look so that is what she is getting. Concidering I've never built a Kitchen I think it looks good.

I've planted some veg, melons and beans. Using a no dig style. Melons from saved seed are looking good. The tomato's were volunteer from my Mother in Laws compost, and then found two more in my compost, all four looking healthy. Beans are doing so so I don't think they are getting enough light. My associate farm helper planted them in a dence pine covered area with plans to remove some of the small trees. Time has gotten away from us and we forgot about the beans dealing with the kitchen and baby chicks. Hot temps and no rain in our corner of the county hasn't helped. Squash, onions, pumpkins and radish were planted for the fun of it yesterday in an old decomposed fallen tree next to a baby Pecan tree we decovered when clearing out the access road. Farmers Almanac said yesterday was a bad planting day but let's see what happens. Adding some photo's to FB. Hope all is doing good, l8tr folks.
