I became interested in Permaculture through one of my friends out of Chicago who I had been involved with various studies, all centered around legal, financial, and functional freedom. As we decided to both jump into to Geoff Lawton's PDC course, it dawned on us that Permaculture was the ultimate missing piece to tie together our previous educational ventures - true self reliance and production as the ultimate way to freedom. We finished the course last month, and I am incredibly excited to begin this new path.
I have broken ground on the design I turned in for the PDC. I am on a residential lot in the downtown area of a small town in Central Texas (New Braunfels). I am aiming to bring in as many reclaimed materials into this project as possible. Currently I am halfway complete with finishing construction on Zone 1 which will cover my front yard with raised contour beds, keyhole gardens, and trellising among the western wall. My goal is to finish this phase of the project before the Fall rains of hurricane season. I am seeking out new connections in the San Antonio - Austin corridor to exchange ideas about the local climate, flora, and fauna. I also avail my hand to help out on any Permaculture project going on in the area. I'm ready to get dirty.
