My professional education and training are in Geography, Land Use Planning, and Geographic Information Systems. I have worked in the field for over 17 years. Additionally, my family background is in small and medium scale conventional farming going back many generations. By drawing on these two areas of knowledge and experience, I have a unique perspective and skill-set when applied using permaculture principles.
I was first drawn to permaculture because of my diverse background and an innate sense that "there must be a better way." After the birth of our first child, my wife (a PhD) and I engaged in intense and extensive research on health and wellness for reasons I will not go into here. With the birth of our second child, our research and study further broadened and expanded. Again we realized, there has to be an alternative, "there must be a better way."
While contemplating the principle of subsidiarity and the idea of self-sufficiency as a means to addressing the issues we uncovered during our research, I discovered permaculture. The art, science, and practice of permaculture is exactly what I have been seeking for many years as a tool to combat many of the problems we face today.
I am excited to take my diverse background, education and training to the next level by applying permaculture design principles to help improve lives and be good stewards of our planet.
