I was raised on a small farm within the "prairie peninsula" of western counties in Indiana. I am certificate holder (2000) in Permaculture Design with interests in renewable local food production, and mimicing natural systems. I live with my wife and three children in rural Tippecanoe County near the great Wabash River.
I came to Permaculture through a great deal of searching and researching as a student and graduate student looking for solutions to the current problems of agriculture. Permaculture seemed to be the only approach that grasped the principles and limits of ecology.
Reflecting these interests, I am currently developing a community service outreach project known as Ecoliteracy for Life. One effort currently going is a local poultry cooperative with ten neighbors working together to grow and process our own meat birds. Another includes slowly developing a forest garden on 2.6 acres with bees, poultry, a few pigs, fruit and nut trees, mushrooms, and a variety and annual and perennial plants. we are slowly remodeling our house in ways that conserve energy, and use more local resources. I give presentations on Permaculture locally.
