About Tom-Scott Gordon

I am a retired architectural photographer with credits on numerous feature articles for over 650 architectural design and construction firms. My interest in organic gardening began in 1967, when I received my first paid photo assignment from Rodale Press to cover my grandmother's restaurant garden at her Red Apple Inn, in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Our family has effectively practiced the Steiner method of soil propogation adding glacial till to our compost ever since.

After receiving my CPD from Geoff Lawton, in 2017-18, I recognized my personal Permaculture interest is centered on physical implementation; from critical ‘key-line’ earthworks contouring and master planning, through construction site-management and passive and active solar system design and integration. Though many architects stake their reputations on “sustainability,”to my knowledge none of my large firm clients share even a passing interest in permaculture.

I have a BFA in fine art from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Post graduate studies have included “School Starter" Certificate course from AERO, two years of volunteer teaching, and (5) five Continuing Ed. certificates in Building Sciences as an ancillary member of the AIA.

In 2021, I became a certified representative of Lithtec™ an eco-friendly, long-term solution for full-depth reclamation of asphalt roads. This product makes an effective water barrier in shale mountain areas where artesian springs create potholes year after year. Amortized over a 25 year lifetime, they cost roughly 1/3 the price of conventional roads.

As a program designer my goal is to help steer you on a development path free of dreaded 'Type 1' errors.

Influencers, (in my words:)
Geoff Lawton- There's a big world of problems out there, give freely of your time to those willing to contribute through these proven means and it will all come back multiplied!

Sepp Holzer- Start the day with simple actions.

Morag Gamble- Integrate your thinking, listen, learn, teach!

Richard Foy, FAIA- "Approach every new job with the attitude that you don't know Jack! You'll be surprised at the value this brings to the project by way of teamwork!”

David Carson, FAIA- “Study every building the government commissions, most likely they have addressed every possible point of failure and maximized cost-efficiency."

Giant Steps Permaculture designs and builds 'tiny houses'

Though I'm not promoting my services as a 'certified' (AIA) architect, I have done a sufficient number of home renovations to qualify as a 'program design architect.' "Draftspersons" may take over from here.
