(projects i'm involved in)
I live in Gainesville, Florida with my husband and 2 children. My husband owns Florida Foodscapes, a homescale edible landscaping, design and rainwater cachement business. I took a PDC in 2002 and have been experimenting and practicing ever since...especially with subsistence farming and perennial polyculture. Most recently, over the past 4 years, we have transformed our 1.4 acre property from a haven for weeds into an edible jungle with thousands of food bearing perennial plants of hundreds of different varieties. We grow annual garden plants in Winter, Spring and Fall until the perennials come up in late spring. What an awesome harvest we had this past year!!!
I am currently a graduate student in the Interdisciplinary Ecology program at the University of Florida. I am extremely passionate about Permaculture. So passionate that my dissertation research focuses on why more farmers do not adopt Permaculture principles, strategies and practices (especially broadscale) on farms. I am conduct this social science research using surveys, observations and interviews of Permaculture-inspired farmers in the US and Australia. Ultimately, my intention is to teach Permaculture to undergraduate students after I graduate...of course only after taking a teacher training and gaining more years of experience on the ground.
