Tia grew up on a 13-acre organic farm in Pittsburgh, PA and has had a lifelong passion for growing food organically and lessening our impact on Mother Earth. She has studied Permaculture in Costa Rica, Bio-dynamic gardening on the Big Island of Hawaii, and GROW BIOINTENSIVE gardening with John Jeavons in Willits, CA. Tia practices Permaculture on her 5-acre farm in East Orlando, works for University of Florida an a Florida-Friendly Extension Agent, is a certified arborist, earth lover, permaculturalist and completed Permaculture Tracher Training at the Permaculture Research Institute in Australia with Geoff Lawton.
Tia became interested in permaculture once she saw how productive the high density plantings of tropical fruit trees with pigeon peas were farming in Costa Rica. After reading Permaculture: A Designers Manual she was astounded by the limitless possibilities of permaculture in restoration of Mother Earth. Since learning of permaculture in 2003 Tia has taught many Permaculture Workshops and has gotten her Permaculture Design Certificate under Bradford White in Orlando, FL.
Projects have included management of the Winter Park Urban Farm, oversight of several community gardens in the Central Florida area, teaching Permaculture Design Courses, restoration of native habitats and teaching agriculture at community colleges. I want to continue to enhance my teaching skills, researching best practices and be able to spread the good works of permaculture worldwide.
