About Dennis Posthumus

Passionate about Nature, Life, building healthy soil, and planting a billion trees. Liberal arts education BA/MA: biology, anthropology, history.

PDC in Istanbul 2010 with PRI Turkey. In 2011 all round farm work experience at Permaculture Institute Vale da Lama, Algarve, Portugal. After a period of hands-on work with animals, food production and natural building I moved back to The Netherlands and started a Permaculture project 'De Stjelp' on a farm in Friesland with two friends.

During all of 2012 we focussed on cool climate food production, plant propegation and value added processing of produce. We taught introductions to Permaculture Design, and worked together with Stichting Lukka in Langelille to design and build a food forest, construct a green roof, and a kitchen garden.

In 2013 I moved to Groningen to focus more on Urban Permaculture systems and study landscape and garden design. In october that year I went back to Portugal and did a Permaculture teacher's training with Rowe Morrow at Vale da Lama, which opened my eyes to participatory learning techniques and social permaculture.

Since januari 2014 I've been working in the interior of Portugal, at a countryside regeneration project called Vale da Sarvinda. We are developing a 180 ha property with Mulberry orchards, Shiitake mushrooms, Olive orchard regeneration, eco-camping site, restoring ruins, building ponds and lakes, and installing a solar park. My involvement has been on coordinating the implementation of the agricultural projects, community vegetable gardens, and helping out with the management of the project.

Currently, I am setting up an internship program which will start november 2014, incorporating the Permaculture Design curriculum with hands-on experience; ranging from design methodology, surveying, and map making, to bio-intensive gardening, to guild-based polyculture orchards, and regenerative soil building stategies.
