In the past I've been involved in numerous fields, from IT to boat building. As a boat builder I was able to work on restorations of classic sailing boats and had the fortune to build two Nantucket whale boats for the national whale boat project. I've also apprenticed with a blacksmith in Cape Town, SA whose focus was on functional art, ranging from gates to kitchen ware. Outside of the trades I spent a summer working for the city of Ann Arbor as a conservationist collecting native seeds, clearing brush, and the clearing of invasive species.
My initial interest in the natural world came from a life surrounded by the Great Lakes where local food is abundant and water dominates many landscapes. I only had a vague notion of permaculture until on a road trip I happened upon a permaculture farm in a remote desert town, where immediately a flame was lit. From there I got involved in any community project I could, from tree plantings, to neighborhood clean up. Then, in 2013 I had saved enough to take a PDC in California, after which I still take the chance to learn wherever I can.
Recently, I relocated to Durham, NC after a brief move to South Africa. My hope is to take the experiences I've had and use them on my own site in Durham as well on a site repair business currently in its planning stage.
