I grew up in a farming family, but didn't really know what I wanted to do with my life. I was encouraged to go into the medical field. For the past 30 years I have worked in the medical field, but have always felt dissatisfied. I have been searching for where I fit in. I learned a lot about alternative medicine and health practices. Applying these things to my self and finding the outcome so much better for my health were great, but I still felt it wasn't a fit for me.
My love of being outside, gardening, etc.and a desire to take care of the land and life led me to researching alternative ways of agriculture. First it was organics, then biodiversity. Soon, I start seeing permaculture, and finally I feel I fit.
There is still a lot of conventional farming and dependency on chemicals in the area where I live. I quit using any chemical fertilizers. etc. in my home garden, trying companion planting and attracting beneficials. I had many comment on what I was able to do. Some of my friends and family are beginning to make similar changes too. Now, I want to take my place to the permaculture level and teach others how to also. To help the "it can't be done's" to realize it can. To have a permaculture town where I live and spread it out to the rural. There are some permaculture places here in Ohio, but they tend to be near the bigger cities. I want to help that trend move outward!
