I came to permaculture via a passion for biology. Initially a wildlife biologist, I became increasingly interested in native plants, first for their own sake & later as landscaping components. From there it was a short step to edible natives, then edible / native, and having carried respect for & understanding of the functions of ecological systems along the way, discovering permaculture was discovering that the wheel had already been invented, and upgraded several times.
Currently I am in the process of turning a suburban tract home yard into a model for sustainable aesthetic productive residential landscaping - and a venue, it is to be hoped, for local permaculture-related workshops (the first will likely involve basic greywater system installation appropriate for California). I am also in the process of designing a water cascading system to replace the current duckery pond / drinking water system at Quail Springs Learning Oasis & Permaculture Farm.
