Located on the pacific caost of mexico, Rancho Sol y Mar (www.ranchosolymar) is a completely off-grid, solar powered ranch, campground, and sustainability center.
At Rancho Sol y Mar we create eletricity, heat, pump and recycle water, run electric fencing, cook, and dehydrate the foods we grow using the power of the sun! We also have chickens, horses, a mischievious burro "Lupita", an equally mischievious dog "Chonchito", and a herd of happy goats from which we produce artisanal cheeses for sale in nearby Puerto Vallarta. We build sustainably using adobe, compressed earthblock, stone, and other natural, locally sourced building materials. We are an integral, well respected, and welcome part of the local community.
Current projects (winter 2012/2013) include beginning our first permaculture food forest and build-out of a compressed earthblock backpacker dorm building to house Wwoofers, interns and travelors. We are also continuing work on our tree planting initiative and general infrastructure.
Increasingly Rancho Sol y Mar is becoming a fun, flexible, extended community. We have several options for volunteering or homesteading internships, as well as land share and purchase options for community members.
We welcome all visitors but ask that you contact us ahead to make arangements. Currently we offer small to mid-sized RV hookup and tent camping sites with the backpacker dorm expected to be online by the spring of 2013. There are also several reasonably priced accommodation options a short walk away on beautiful Mayto Beach!
