We reached the point where the first 2.5 hectares was fully planted with up to five layers of fruit trees, had tilapia, koi ponds and bee hives doing their part and were growing almost all our veggies and fruit then we managed to buy the adoining lot that is about the same size.
The first lot was developed primarily for food for the family with the excess being cash crops. The new lot will be mostly cash crops like mangosteen, banana, coconuts, cashew, rambutan, coffee, cacao, calamansi, ginger, turmeric, lanzones, chillies, etc.
I am now starting on our first 100 feet by 16 feet "greenhouse" where I wll grow tomatoes, peppers, strwaberries etc. I have been growing these but the tomatoes and peppers get full of large fruit fly lavae. I have tried everything and found the only solution is either nasty tough skinned tomatoes and peppers or completety enclosing them in shade net. The greenhouse(s) will have a clear plasitic roof and shade net sides. The problem with the strawberries has been excessive rain so growing them under cover will allow us to control the water supply.
