I'm an urban homesteader with 1/2 acre backyard and 2 acres of wooded floodplain. We've had a flock of laying hens since 2008 and a large, organic veggie garden. We tried our hand at raising Pekin ducklings for meat in 2013. We have no pond so it was pretty stinky.
We are planning a move to SE Michigan in the next 5 years to a 5 - 10 acre plot. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about sustainable homesteading and home-building as I can before the move. We want to buy vacant, rural land and build our own home using sustainable design to reduce the amount of energy needed for heating and cooling.
