My path into Permaculture began with a long loving relationship with Architecture & Ecological Design sparked by travel experiences as a young boy in Denmark, Canada, and Japan. My formal training in architecture began in Newport Beach, CA in 1993 as a freshman in high school and culminated in 2006 with degrees in Architecture & Sustainable Development from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and included one incredible year of living and studying architecture in Copenhagen, Denmark. Since December 2006 I've been living & working in the Mojave desert in Joshua Tree, CA with my wife and now young son. In 2007 I began a design-build company Holmes Ecological Design & Construction, working to create climate-responsive, resource-efficient, healthy & comfortable buildings & landscapes.
I've had a sweet courtship with Permaculture over the last 10 years and was officially initiated into the world of Permaculture at Quail Springs through a PDC for International Development & Social Entrepreneurship which began on Summer Solstice 2014. I'm deeply grateful to my teacher & mentor Warren Brush and the entire community at Quail Springs for welcoming me and the many teachings that I came away with.
In 2009 my wife & I planted a seed for The Nourishing Tree, a Community-Oriented Mixed-Use Center for Healthy & Sustainable Living, located in downtown Joshua Tree, CA. After a long germination period that seed sprouted in 2014 and The Nourishing Tree is growing stronger & more resilient with each light-filled day. Follow us and join us as we grow together.
