About Tanya Mendija

Still trying to figure out how to get out of "here" and get to "there" because "there" is where I would rather be. Go figure??

Born and raised on the most Hawaiian Island, Molokai, on a Hawaiian Homestead farming until I went away to college. Decided at that time that I did not want to be a farmer.

Been there, done that, worked in an office which I call the box and realized my potentials, then quickly got out of it before I turned old and gray and still click, click typing away as I watched my life pass by each day, day in, day out, same ole', same ole' thing, then just like that I decided I no longer wanted to live that way.

I realized, why live like that when I live in Hawaii, where the sun is always out, and the air is always fresh. Get outside and smell the ocean sprays and the freshly cut grass. I finally had a moment and the balls to get out fast. God is good, he knows our intentions.

Nowadays, I am just working on my plans to integrate the renewed knowledge of ancient Hawaiian practices and other cultural practices into my personal garden and the gardens of friends and family, oh and the local schools and hope to instill in them the desire to go back to the land, to live life simpler, recognize the abundance around us and participate in life and not just live in it.

The Permaculture way needs to be adopted into everyone's lives so that we can survive in a world ready to fall apart around us. A sustainable lifestyle that leaves time for play and hobbies and at the same time food on the table.

So, to Andrew and Shenaquah Jones who renewed my spirits and brought me back to my roots I say Mahalo Nui Loa. To Malia Akutagawa who introduced me to a wonderful array of people in the Permaculture group and to the knowledge I have gained. And to everyone else who believe in the same movement, stay on track.
