About Andrew Jones

Andrew Jones has lived internationally since the age of 4 months following his birth in Australia. He subsequently pursued environmental studies in Australia, followed by formative travel and working adventures in Europe. At 25, he began a career in international aid and development work, spending 3 years in northern Iraq - initially with CARE Australia. He subsequently earned his graduate diploma in Environmental management and Development studies at the Australian National University before continuing to work in the field, including time in SE Asia, the Pacific and the Balkans.

Having observed the varied success and failures of the aid and development 'industry', Andrew developed a determination to strengthen the role of sustainability within his working approach. He took an initial PDC with Geoff Lawton at PRI Tagari Farm in 1999, and subsequently a second PDC in Tasmania with Bill Mollison, Janet Millington and Darren Doherty in 2001. During the subsequent years, he worked as a consultant to UNHCR and UNEP in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Albania and Indonesia, various non-profits and worked with private clients in the US, Mexico, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Mongolia, Thailand and Nigeria. He was involved in several business startups founded on permaculture principles. He began teaching PDC's in 2003 and has subsequently taught courses in the US, Hawai'i, Haiti, Peru, Canada and Mexico.

Today Andrew is involved in consulting and teaching work internationally, as well as projects focused in Baja California Sur, Mexico, which is his home base. He has co-founded Baja BioSana - a permaculture designed community and learning center, and established an eco-B&B in La Paz. In parallel, he continues to deepen his study and understanding of natural health, and his work on natural building including specializations in masonry and carpentry. His life is infused with the deepening awareness of our birthright to abundant and cooperative living on planet earth.
