About Doug Weatherbee

Doug Weatherbee is a 2011 Certified Soil Foodweb Advisor and owner of SoilDoctor.org. Soil Foodweb Certification is an Annual Accreditation System with good standing indicated by Certification Year. Current Accreditation Year 2011.

Consulting with small, medium and large scale farms and ranches in Latin America, the United States and Canada; he uses an applied soil microbiological (eco) systems approach to transform soils degraded by industrial chemical agriculture and even conventional organic farming, into regenerative microbiological agricultural systems. Doug is a passionate teacher of the soil microbiological approach, teaching several workshops a year and speaking at conferences on the importance of working with the microbes in the soil.

Doug has studied and worked closely with Dr. Elaine Ingham, Soil Foodweb Inc., and currently works with Matt Slaughter, Director of the Oregon Soil Foodweb Lab on for profit and non-for-profit projects. He is also collaborating with Craig Sponholtz of Dryland Solutions in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Craig's work is based in the pioneering geomorphology and Induced Meandering river restoration methodology of Bill Zeedyck. Doug and Craig are designing techniques and projects that integrate both of their approaches in the arid US Southwest and Mexico.

Doug is also a co-founder of a new multidisciplinary sustainability group and bio-region educational institute associated with the US and Mexico Chapters of Engineers Without Borders and Instituto Tierra y Cal in Mexico. Details will be released at the International Engineers Without Borders Conference in March 2011.

Doug's Permacutlure Design Course was taught by Geoff Lawton at Quail Springs, California in 2008.
