About Martin Bastide

I was born in France in a small village in the alpes and lived there until I was seventeen. Then I have moved a lot and lived in various places such as Canada, Caribean (Martinique), Indonesia, UK, Vietnam, La RĂ©union.

As far as my background is concerned, I have studied anthropology for eight years and have also a training in humanitarian project management.

In 2010 I quit my studies to get involved in organic farming. First, I have worked as a project manager for project of System of Rice Intensification in South Vietnam. At that time I researched different system of integrated farming such as the vietnamese VAC and eventually came across the concept of permaculture.

The holistic approach of permaculture attracted me straight away and I decided to do a PDC as soon as possible. I found on the net a project in India (Heal the Soil) that offered internships and PDC's.

So, I started my journey into the fascinating world of permaculture in Decembre 2012. After completing a PDC, I have been volunteering at Sapney farm, the heart of Heal the Soil project for over a year (untill march 2014). There, alongside other apprentice permaculturists, we have tried to develop a demonstration and learning center for small scale tropical permaculture.

At the same time, I have been volunteering in a beautiful project called Pebble Garden. Located in Auroville, India, it is a 7 acre project dedicated to the regeneration of the endemic Tropical Dry Evergreen Forest and the conservation of heirlooms vegetable seeds.

Back to France for a few months, I have been engaged in designing my parents garden, a 6000 m2 piece of and co teaching in a PDC with Doug Crouch and Roman Eisenkobl in northern Spain. Back to India in late 2014 to co-teach a PDC alongside Rico Zook and Roman Eisenkobl, I have then been involved (still with Rico) in designing an 11 acres farm located Kodaikanal. Since May 2015, I have joined the Terrasoul Community Project, located in Auroville, India, where I have been asked to design the 7 acres farm as well as to manage the farm activities.
