Hello, I've had quite a ride on this little ball o' dirt. I grew up in an idyllic vacation town, Traverse City, MI then traveled the world as a professional freerunner/parkour performer in commercials, ads, live shows, and doing stunts in movies. Living the so-called life of success made me realize that what our culture constantly plays up is just an illusion of happiness displayed through external examples. Basically wealth/status displays, and I always knew there was more to life than this. Since High School I dedicated my life to the pursuit of Truth. And gradually the truth I was learning about the world was quite unsettling and demanded ACTION. And it was just when I was maturing into this understanding that I discovered Permaculture and it's been my journey ever since.
After doing quite a bit of moving around and traveling I realized how this lifestyle left me feeling very uprooted and detached. So, seeking to reconnect and sink my roots, I moved back to my hometown to develop a permaculture site on my family land. The land used to be a farm two generations ago but has been neglected for decades. Currently I'm building a strawbale greenhouse, and developing plans for a small natural built cabin to live in with my best friend, and mate. I've planted about a one acre food forest so far, and have chickens and pigs tractoring to recondition the soil, and sequester carbon with very good results. I've got ten total acres to play with and eventually plan on expanding into cattle as the pasture improves, as well as various perennial crops in the style of Mark Shepard. The site is kind of like my sandbox to experiment with new alternative technologies for meeting our basic needs and some basic creature comforts, while healing the ecosystem upon which we depend. I will also be running educational work shops and work parties on site and connecting with other local producers to get organized and formulate a plan for the unstable future ahead of us.
