Forest Garden and Greenhouse Intensives!

Project: Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute

Posted by Jerome Osentowski almost 13 years ago

Come up to CRMPI during the heart of harvest time to dive into learning specifically about forest gardening and greenhouse design. CRMPI has a 25 year old forest garden and FOUR greenhouses (one is tropical with a sauna)

4-Day Forest Garden Intensive:  Harvest Time!!   September 8-11, 2011

This is an extended version of our 1-day Forest Garden Workshop.  Throughout these four days, you will receive hands-on instruction in all aspects of forest gardening.  We will focus on the unique nature of high-altitude forest gardening.  Taught by Jerome Osentowski, founder of the Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute in Basalt, CO.  Will include a tour of CRMPI, hands-on work in the forest garden (including rock wall construction and trellising), instruction in forest garden design and implementation, maintenance, watering, food harvesting, food processing, vermiculture and more.  This is a unique opportunity to spend time in the 20 year old forest garden at CRMPI during the harvest season when many of the over 150 varieties of trees are heavy with fruit.  CRMPI is celebrating 25 years this summer and is one of the oldest forest garden demonstration sites in the United States.  Also on site, CRMPI has a 16 kilowatt PV system, four solar greenhouses, 2 sunny johns, a passive solar home, extensive water catchment and a gray water system showing permaculture design in action.

Workshop fee is $450 with a $50 early bird discount if you sign up by August 8, 2011.  Camping, meals and curriculum materials included.

4-Day Greenhouse Intensive:  Harvest Time!!  September 15-18, 2011

This is an extended version of our 1-day Greenhouse Workshop.  Throughout these four days, you will receive hands-on instruction in all aspects of high-altitude greenhouse design, installation and maintenance.  Taught by Jerome Osentowski, founder of the Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute in Basalt, CO.  Will include a tour of CRMPI, hands-on greenhouse work projects, greenhouse design (including commercial greenhouse design and climate battery technology), installation and planting schedules, maintenance and water systems, vermiculture, food harvesting and food processing.  CRMPI contains four greenhouses, each with its own unique design and focus; Phoenix is the largest and features fruiting papayas, banana trees and a mix of tropical perennials and annual vegetables, Mana is the next largest and features Mediterranean plants such as fig and rosemary, the Cabin greenhouse is primarily used for extra summer annual crops and herbs, and Sri is a supplemental greenhouse featuring a rotating variety of annuals and a few perennial herbs.  CRMPI is celebrating 25 years this summer and is one of the oldest permaculture demonstration sites in the United States.  Also on site, CRMPI has a 16 kilowatt PV system, four solar greenhouses, 2 sunny johns, a passive solar home, extensive water catchment and a gray water system showing permaculture design in action.  Whether you're interested in growing tropical fruit or just doing season extension, this workshop will give you what you need to know.

Workshop fee is $450 with a $50 early bird discount if you sign up by August 8, 2011.  Camping, meals and curriculum materials included.

NOTE:  If you sign up for both the Forest Garden and Greenhouse Intensives, you will also receive an additional $25 discount on each. Camping and all meals available for $40 a day for the time in between the workshops (September 12-14, 2011).

Call 970-927-4158 or email [email protected] for more info on either workshop or to sign up.

Legend of Badges

Note: The various badges displayed in people profiles are largely honesty-based self-proclamations by the individuals themselves. There are reporting functions users can use if they know of blatant misrepresentation (for both people and projects). Legitimacy, competency and reputation for all people and projects can be evidenced and/or developed through their providing regular updates on permaculture work they’re involved in, before/after photographs, etc. A spirit of objective nurturing of both people and projects through knowledge/encouragement/inspiration/resource sharing is the aim of the Worldwide Permaculture Network.

PRI Teacher

With the exception of the ‘Member’ who has never taken a PDC, all of the above can apply to become a PRI PDC Teacher. PRI PDC Teachers are those who the PRI recognise, through a vetting board, as determined and competent to teach the full 72-hour course as developed by Permaculture founder Bill Mollison – covering all the topics of The Designers’ Manual as well as possible (i.e. not cherry picking only aspects the teacher feels most interested or competent in). Such teachers also commit to focussing on the design science, and not including subjective spiritual/metaphysical elements. The reason these items are not included in the PDC curriculum is because they are “belief” based. Permaculture Design education concerns itself with teaching good design based on strategies and techniques which are scientifically provable.

PRI PDC Teachers may be given teaching and/or consultancy offerings as they become available as the network grows.
