Back from Tansania

Posted by Bernhard Gruber about 12 years ago

Between 27th of November and 18th of December 2011, Bernhard Gruber, austrian Permaculture-Designer and Teacher, organiced together with Tancania-Expert and Permaculture-Designer Franz Hörmanseder a Permaculture Traing, a Training for medicinal Plants wit

Participants from Permaculture- and Anamed-Training in 2011The aim of this year's trip was a permaculture training for farmers at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro and a workshop on tropical medicinal plants with Dr. Feleshi from anamed.Bernhard Gruber and Franz Hörmanseder runned this trainings in cooperation with Aloyce Massawe, a local farmer at Umbwe Onana. This two weeks a varied program of practical work, exercises, planning, project presentations, medicinal plants like Artemisia are theoretical, baobab and moringa soap boiling and through to production of ointments was offered. A special thanks to family Massawe for the accommodation and delicious food and also thanks to Dr. Feleshi and his team.

The third and final week of the trip leaded to the Barabaiga people, a tribe similar to the Maasai. In overcrowded buses to partially flooded slopes we reached Lake Bassotu, the sacred lake of Barabaiga people. Main transport is the ox-cart or bicycle. Task here was to visit a German Well project  and to discuss further progress.

We alreade planed the next trip for 2012. We like to visit our participants from 2010 and 2011 in Tansania and Kenya.
